LEAGUE RULES

The Amateur Division is the entry-level tier of the Club Basketball League and the home for new players and newly formed teams. It is designed to be competitive but accessible, with an emphasis on player development and having fun.

New players who sign up through the league site enter the free agent pool and are eligible to be signed by Amateur Division teams. GMs in Amateur are encouraged to build and develop their rosters rather than cycling through players.

All new players joining the CBL begin their career in the Amateur Division regardless of their skill level. Players may be promoted to higher divisions only through team promotion or after being signed by a Pro/Elite team following free agency.

New players receive a base overall rating of 70 upon joining. Ratings are updated by admins after each season based on performance.

The top 2 teams in the Amateur Division standings at the end of the regular season are promoted to the Pro Division for the following season.

Amateur teams are not subject to relegation — all remaining teams stay in Amateur. There is no lower division below Amateur.

New teams created by the admin or formed from free agents start in the Amateur Division by default.

The top 4 Amateur Division teams qualify for the end-of-season playoffs. All series are best-of-3.

The Amateur champion earns promotion to the Pro Division in addition to the standard top-2 promotion spots.

Amateur teams have the most flexibility in roster management. There is no minimum roster size enforcement for the first 2 weeks of a season to allow new GMs time to build their team.

After week 2, a minimum of 6 active players is required. Admins are available to help new GMs find players from the free agent pool.
